Surplus self-consumption refers to the solar energy produced by your photovoltaic system that you don’t use at the time. This excess energy is sent to the grid and can be compensated financially, allowing you to earn from unused energy.
Here you will find updated information about today's compensation prices for photovoltaic surplus as set by the electricity system.
Self-consumption tariffs with photovoltaic surpluses vary throughout the day. The best times to get optimal compensation are usually between 8am and 10am, when solar production is high and coincides with favorable prices in the electricity market. It is important to note that when there is no more sunlight, no compensation is made, as your installation is not generating energy to feed into the grid.

Prices are obtained through the Red Eléctrica Española (REE).
To maximize the performance of your photovoltaic installation, we recommend scheduling self-consumption during hours where compensation is lower, and favoring grid feed-in during hours where the price for self-consumption surplus and its compensation is more favorable.

Surplus self-consumption refers to the solar energy produced by your photovoltaic system that you don’t use at the time. This excess energy is sent to the grid and can be compensated financially, allowing you to earn from unused energy.
At Lumisa, surplus compensation works through our virtual battery system. When your installation produces more energy than you consume, the surplus is sent to the grid and our compensation price is €0.05/kWh. This amount is directly deducted from your electricity bill and could even reduce your bill to €0 if your production is high enough.
At Lumisa, the compensation price for surplus self-consumption is €0.05 for each kWh fed into the grid. This competitive rate allows you to maximize the return on your solar investment. The compensation is applied as a discount on your monthly bill.
Yes, to get the most out of surplus compensation with Lumisa, you must sign up for our Solar Electricity Tariff. This self-consumption tariff is tailored for solar installations and offers a price of €0.13985/kWh across all periods (peak, flat, and off-peak), which when combined with surplus compensation, maximizes your savings.
With Lumisa's virtual battery and under the Simplified Surplus Compensation (CSE) mechanism, compensation is not limited to the cost of consumed energy. The value of your surplus can be applied to all items on your bill: power, meter rental, electricity tax, other charges, and VAT. If your production is high enough, you can get a €0 bill. And if there’s any remaining balance after covering all costs, it rolls over to your next bill, boosting your system’s profitability. Surplus is mainly generated during sunny hours (8 AM to 10 AM is optimal), and not during dark hours (after around 7 PM).
